DataHub

Interactive data-driven web applications to facilitate analysis on sovereign debt, macroeconomics, and capital markets.

Mission

Data is at the center of the Sovereign Vibe project. Insufficient data transparency is a perennial challenge confronting the sovereign debt landscape, with creditors and borrowers often failing to disclose cross-border lending. While some aspects of the data opacity problem will remain intractable without the cooperation of key stakeholders, others can be addressed either by processing information to make it readily usable for descriptive purposes or by linking it to decision-useful analytical frameworks. This is DataHub’s purpose. Let’s make public debt public!

Dashboards

Sovereign Vibe’s inaugural web app provides a simple breakdown of outstanding public and publicly-guaranteed debt from the World Bank’s International Debt Statistics database for the countries eligible for the G20’s Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) and its successor, the Common Framework for Debt Treatments beyond the DSSI. Users can filter the data by borrowing country, creditor counterpart country, and by current US dollars or percentage of GDP.

A second web app allows users to view several indicators that help predict sovereign debt stress 1-2 years ahead in market-access countries, according to an IMF model. The dashboard facilitates cross-country comparisons on each variable.
